DR Congo Agrees to Receive US-Deported Migrants Amid Crisis

(MENAFN) The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) will start accepting third-country nationals deported from the United States under a “temporary” arrangement, despite escalating security and humanitarian challenges, according to reports.

The Congolese Ministry of Communications said on Sunday that the deportees would arrive this month and be accommodated in facilities in the capital, Kinshasa.

“Logistical and technical support for this program will be provided by the US… No financial burden will be borne by the treasury of the Democratic Republic of Congo,” the ministry stated.

The announcement did not indicate the number of individuals Congo has agreed to accept.

Since returning to office last year, US President Donald Trump has revived a series of strict immigration policies. His administration has negotiated contentious agreements with multiple African nations—including Eswatini, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Cameroon, and South Sudan—to transfer migrants considered ineligible to remain in the US.
